We are often asked similar questions by many of our patients. The following questions may clear up some of the things you have wondered about, and their answers will help you understand more clearly what takes place.
Will my Artificial eye look like a real eye and will it have movement?
Yes, your eye prosthesis is made to duplicate the colour, prominence and lid flow of that of your good eye. The exact colour tints and shading is used to create a lively appearance. The movement of the Artificial eye will depend on how you lost the eye, on what surgical procedure was performed and whether hopefully the muscles were kept and not damaged.
Will there be a difference?
The answer is yes. Because the two eyes were not symetrical to begin with. In fact, no persons'face is exactly symmetrical. The one mouth is higher on one side than the other, the nose favours one side more than the other, one side of the face is larger than the other. Studies show one person in 10,000 is aware of these differences. So again , because your eyes were not the same to begin with, it is highly unlikely that anyone will notice a difference.
What can I do to hide severe scarring to my eyelids?
Since you depend on one eye as your sole source of vision, every precaution must be taken to protect this eye. Even if you have excellent vision, glasses are your best bet for shielding your eye from foreign objects or unexpected blows. There are a variety of lenses and frames for spectacles. You can get coloured or tinted lenses or by choosing the right frame with a particular style or curve that could keep the eyelid scarring hidden. |
