On the day of your first visit to our practice, you will be provided with all the necessary information so that you can understand all procedures and services that will follow.
The latest technology is used in all phases of the procedure of creating an anatomically correct custom moulded Artificial eye or haptic shell (incorporating an iris and sclera along with veins ) with specialized scleral fitting, including hand painted iris reproduction, providing a matched appearance of the natural eye.
Our greatest goal is to help all our patients, young and old, to lead enriched, productive and happy lives.
The acrylic from which the Artificial eyes/Scleral Shells are made has a high tensile strength, hovever thin edges of the eye may chip if dropped. The advantage of the acrylic Artificial eye is that we are able to fix chips, polish and resurface the prosthesis as well as make adjustments to the shape and iris colour or veining as and when necessary.
During the process of creating and fitting of the Artificial eye we are able to attain a three dimensional flush fit of the complete orbit. |

In children an eye shell should be fitted immediately and should be enlarged periodically to stimulate symmetrical orbital tissue and bone growth in order to restore facial balance. Fusion of the orbital bones only occur at approximately 12-13 years of age.
Children adapt quickly to the new changes that they experience and the wearing of an Artificial eye is comfortable and very basic. It is important to note that rubbing the Artificial eye whilst in the socket could cause the prosthesis to dislodge or to turn in the orbit, it is thus important that the child be taught not to fiddle, play or touch their eyelids and socket and to allways wash their hands when handling their prosthesis. |
