Haptic Scleral Shells Over Blinded Eyes

PDF  | Print |  E-mail

In the case of a blind disfigured eye that does not present with either pain or possible sympathetic infection of the other eye, either a tinted soft contact lens may be fitted, or a scleral shell which is made of acrylic and covers the whole of the front of the eye. This Lens incorporates an iris (colour) and sclera (white of the eye), along with veins.

The fitting and wearing of the Scleral Shells are not as uncomfortable as it may sound as there is normally a loss of sensitivity found in most blinded eyes, which allows for comfortable wearing as well as good movement of the prosthetic shell.
